The Historical Society's House Tour on May 18 was a success on a beautiful sunny day. Our thanks to the home owners, hosts and others who contributed to its success.

Historical Room at the Public Library

Work on staffing the Historical Room at the Public Library continues. The Room was open on Wednesday, May 21, 1 to 3 p.m., and it is anticipated that it will be staffed again on Thursday, June 5,  2 to 4 p.m.

Activities include assisting interested Library patrons in accordance with Library Rules and Procedures and inventorying the books and other materials in the Room. Persons interested in participating in this staffing project are invited to contact Will Ertman (749-9420).

Old Ordinary Summer Hours

The Old Ordinary is open for summer hours from June 17 through September 6, Tuesday to Saturday, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The Special Exhibit on display is "Ornate, Ordinary and Oh-So-Necessary" ceramics in various rooms.

A "Reciprocal"

Members of the Orleans Historical Society visited the Hingham Historical Society on May 7 and were guided in their visit by Gene Chamberlain. They suggest a "reciprocal" with the Hingham Historical Society, perhaps in the Fall.

Any members interested in such a "reciprocal" are invited to contact Will Ertman.

Annual Meeting

The Society's Annual Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17, at the South Shore Country Club. For member information, the current Bylaws are reprinted on pages 2 and 3 of this newsletter.

Details of the Annual Meeting and Program will be highlighted in the September issue of News and Notes , mailed to Historical Society members in late August.

The Erickson Company purchased a number of the Historical Society's Out of the Ordinary cookbooks and distributed them to persons on the Linden Ponds Priority List. The Society has received the following note from a cookbook recipient:

Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan

April 17, 2003

Dear Members of the Hingham Historical Society,

As a prospective resident of Linden Ponds, I was sent a copy of your cookbook, Out of the Ordinary." What a nice way to be introduced to the community. I was so impressed with the book—the recipes, the history, art work, calligraphy. You are to be congratulated.

I am moving East to be near several family members who live in Cambridge and Newport, RI. I'll be sure to visit the Old Ordinary, and am looking forward to going on your House Tour.

Your cookbook could also be called "Way Above the Ordinary."

Sincerely,

Margot Sterren
